About The Project
Hospitality as a form of restraint.
Hotel Maren occupies a converted warehouse on Bergen's historic Bryggen waterfront. The building's industrial bones — exposed timber trusses, raw brick, original cast iron columns — were preserved entirely and used as the foundation for a 42-room boutique hotel that feels simultaneously old and completely new.
The brief asked for warmth without sentimentality. We responded with a palette of smoked oak, brushed bronze, and deep wool textiles that absorb rather than reflect light. Every room faces the fjord. Every corridor ends in a window. The building knows where it is and is not embarrassed about it.
